As we may know nowadays about the quality of water from PDAM, which still does not meet the water quality parameters, especially for the production process. That is become one of the reasons PT KLN use water treatment (UV) to maintain the quality of water, and prevention of the bacteria
Ultraviolet sterilizer (UV) is a sterilization filter device, which capable of emitting the ultraviolet light waves to sterilize process water. The processing of water treatment that uses UV can kill germs effectively up to 99%.
In addition, dirty water that has gone through the filtering stage, and has become clean water is highly recommended to pass through the ultraviolet (UV) stage, so that it becomes processed water that does not contain bacteria. At PT Kelola Laut Nusantara, using brand name Viqua for UV with the type VH410 for 2 units. In addition, we also use 4 units of hydrotek brand filters.
UV mechanism of action at PT Kelola Laut Nusantara
- Water from PDAM enters the filter to absorb the filtrate (sand, mud, etc.)
- After passing through the filter, then the water enters the UV. Inside the UV itself, there is a heater component that must be fed with water every time it is turned on. Because,,if the heater is not fed with water, it will cause the heater to be damaged.
At the time when the water enters, UV releases a photon which will be absorbed by the DNA of microorganisms in the water, which causes DNA damage so that the DNA replication process will be hampered. In this state, microorganisms will die slowly because they cannot regulate cell metabolism and cannot reproduce. - Water that has passed UV will flow into the reservoir and then will flow to processing.
UV Cleaning Process
The process of turning on the UV is carried out in the morning, exactly 4 hours before the use of water for the production process, and it is turned off 1 hour after used. If the process of turning on and off is carried out at the same time, it will cause the water that passes through the UV becomes ineffective, and it also can damages the UV.
The UV and reservoir sanitization processs are carried out once a month. The sanitization process includes:
1 Throw all the water in the reservoir and close the flow.
2. Clean the reservoir using tepol soap, and rub all parts of the reservoir.
3. After that, the reservoir is rinsed using liquid chlorine.
4. Drain soapy water along with chlorine and rinse using clean water.
5. Drain the chlorine water, then flowed into the filter pipe and allowed to stand for 2 minutes to clean the filter pipe. Then it is removed by the filter pipe for disposal.
6. The replacement of the filter cartridge is carried out once a month when the reservoir is draining.
7. The replacement of UV is carried out once every 1 year depending on usage.
